The Chinese Community Action Coalition (\u201cCCAC\u201d) was formed in 1988 by a group of practical idealists, social service providers, students, teachers, lawyers, accountants, and entrepreneurs who share common concerns regarding the Chinese Community. The mission of CCAC is to (i) uphold and promote the civil rights of the Chinese in Hawaii; (ii) define the needs of the Chinese Community; (iii) advocate for and to provide sufficient social services for the Chinese Community; and (iv) advance fairness and justice for all.<\/p>\n

Over the years, CCAC has developed and maintained four core initiatives that serve the Chinese Community in Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Chinese Health and Social Club<\/strong>: An active group of Chinese immigrant seniors gather weekly for informational discussions on issues such as healthcare, crimes, immigration, and other relevant news topics. The group members take field trips, sing to Chinese songs, and participate in other fun activities.<\/p>\n

SHINE Tutorial Program<\/strong>: University and college students provide English tutoring to Chinese immigrants studying for the citizenship and naturalization tests. CCAC has forged strong relationships with local academic institutions to encourage service learning and civic engagement among our youth.<\/p>\n

Voter Registration<\/strong>: Through our voter registration drives in Honolulu Chinatown, our bilingual volunteers assist newly naturalized citizens from the Chinese immigrant community to partake in one of the most fundamental privileges of American citizenship \u2013 the right to vote. CCAC also encourages the Chinese community to vote by absentee ballots (or vote at home), which is more user friendly to our seniors and those who may require additional language assistance.<\/p>\n

Candidates Forum<\/strong>: Every election year, CCAC invites candidates running for local and national office to discuss issues pertaining to the Chinese Community at a public forum in Honolulu Chinatown. CCAC is a strictly nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating voters\u2019 ability to exercise their right to vote without regard to their choice of candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
